Zurich, Thu, 23 October 2003 — Under the patronage of the universities of Beijing, Munich, Tokyo, Warsaw, and Zurich, the winter term 2003/2004 offers an exciting lecture series: "The AI Lectures from Tokyo".
Starting on Tuesday, 4 November 2003 at 9:15 CET, students from five different countries will be able to participate in a global teaching experiment spanning 8 time zones.
The lecture series on modern artificial Intelligence, held by Prof. Rolf Pfeifer (currently at the University of Tokyo), will be broadcast to lecture halls around the world, using state-of-the-art videoconferencing technology. The goals of this ambitious project are, on the one hand, to create an interactive learning environment, so that the attending students feel comfortable to actively participate on a global scale; on the other hand, the project aims at establishing a global community in the field of modern Artificial Intelligence. For this purpose, the lectures will not only be broadcast to the five participating universities, but also made available on the internet for everyone interested in the "AI Lectures from Tokyo" (broadband internet access required).
