Pentel Orenz

The Pentel Orenz is the first ever .2 pencil that we have ever come across! I'm so excited about the possibilities with this super fine mechanical pencil. They've taken extra precautions with this pencil to enable you to protect the needle nose tip by making it retractable. The secret to this pencil is the ability to protract just a small amount of lead at a time, leading to a stronger lead point than you would expect from a .2 size! The Pentel Orenz 0.2mm pencil is the ultimate in fine pencil lead. When the Orenz was first released in August of 2014 we assumed that other Japanese pencil manufacturers would soon follow their lead, but over a decade later there are no other offerings. 

This ultra-fine pencil is a specialty item and benefits from specialty care. We’ve compiled a few tips to help you get the most out of your 0.2mm Orenz Pencil:

1. This pencil is sensitive, protect it in a case or drawer.
2. When extending the tip, you shouldn’t see the lead protrude beyond the protective sleeve. The sleeve will recede as the lead wears down, and will extend as you click the cap to advance the lead.
3. Only use one piece of lead in your pencil at a time to reduce the risk of jams.
4. Your Pentel 0.2mm Orenz contains a hidden lead extraction tool. Under the cap is a small eraser. If you pull the eraser out, you will find a thin metal tool, useful for removing lead from the tip
5. Once your lead stops advancing, it’s time to use the tool to extract it. Remove the cap and tool, press the eraser end of the pencil down on your desk, and carefully insert the extraction tool into the tip end of the pencil. The small remainder of lead should fall down to the desk, and you can insert a new piece of 0.2mm lead into the eraser end of the pencil. Replace the eraser and cap, and you’re ready to write.
