About the Beijing site

Peking University is a comprehensive and National key university of China. The campus, known as "Yan Yuan" - the gardens of Yan, is situated at the northeast of the Haidian District at the western suburbs of Beijing. It stands near the Yuan Ming Gardens and the Summer Palace.

Center for Information Science and the National laboratory on machine perception, the first national laboratory of Peking University, was founded in 1986. The main research objectives of the laboratory are fundamental and applications oriented basic research in the field of machine visual perception and auditory information processing, which are essential to advance such engineering areas as artificial intelligence, robotics, intelligent control systems, management automation, etc. The research has been focused on the basic theory and methodology for machine visual and auditory perception, voice and text recognition and natural language understanding, image recognition and image database, intelligent system and knowledge engineering, neural computational modeling and artificial neural networks, and other fundamental research topics with potential social and economical benefits. The research results have provided methods and techniques for the realization of practically applicable machine visual and auditory perception systems, natural human-machine interaction systems, and have established, in certain application fields, the principles and techniques of design at advanced level, leading to the development of practical products.

PKU highly values its exchange programs with other universities around the world. PKU's international prominence has grown considerably following the University's 100th anniversary in 1998, which led to a vibrant expansion and growth of international exchange and cooperation. Currently, PKU has strong academic relations with 174 universities in 47 countries, of which 63 universities from Asian countries, 52 from European countries, 47 from American countries, 5 in African countries, and 7 from countries in the Pacific.

Lecture Hall: The lecture is arranged at Classroom 318 of Audio & Visual Education Center, which is situated in PKU campus. The classroom provides space for 120 students and is equipped with the latest facilities, such as computers, electronic projectors, video projectors, and an audio system. The audio-video equipments are compatible and have been integrated into KRAMER system.
